Multilateral Development Banks
MDBs finance fossil infrastructure projects through (i) direct loans to governments and state-owned companies for hydrocarbon exploration, transportation, and refining; (ii) concessional financing, offering preferential interest rates for energy projects in emerging markets; and (iii) guarantees and co-financing, mitigating risks to attract private investment in fossil megaprojects such as gas pipelines or LNG terminals, violating their commitments under the Paris Agreement.
