Export Credit Agencies (ECAs)
ECAs are agencies mandated to promote their own country’s exports. They are generally public entities, and if private, they manage public funds. They have a strong presence in the energy sector. Different ECAs specialize in various products that can include (i) direct loans to exporting companies or importing firms; (ii) direct loans to infrastructure or extractive projects; (iii) all types of insurance; and (iv) guarantees that enable an operation or project to proceed.
